Scholl makes third-straight appearance

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) announced its academic awards on Monday and the Maryland field hockey team was one of 43 teams to receive the NFHCA's Team Academic Award, given to the programs who have earned a team grade point average of 3.0 or better for the first semester of the 2007-08 academic year. Seven individual Terrapins were also named to the NHFCA National Academic Squad, including All-American Susie Rowe.

The National Academic Squad program recognizes student-athletes who have achieved a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.30 through the first semester of the 2007-08 academic year. The National Academic Team award recognizes the teams that achieve a minimum GPA of 3.0 during the first semester of the 2007-08 academic year.

Freshman Meghan Dean (Marathon, N.Y.), sophomore Alicia Grater (Gilbertsville, Pa.), senior Danielle Keeley (Elkton, Md.), redshirt freshman Alicia Morawski (Grosse Point, Mich.), junior Sarah Scholl (Center Valley, Pa.) and senior Kim Ziegler (Kingsville, Md.) join junior Susie Rowe (London, England) on the National Academic Squad.

Scholl makes her third-straight appearance on the academic squad. Majoring in food science, she was a starter in all 21 games, helping the Terps post an 18-3 record. Rowe was a first-team NFHCA All-American and was third on the team in scoring (34) and goals (14), while playing defense. She is a business major.

Keeley is also a business major, making appearances in 19 games this season, while Ziegler wrapped up her senior campaign playing in every game. Ziegler is an engineering major. Dean started in eight games and played in all 21 on defense, helping Maryland post a 0.90 team goals against average. Backing up the backfield was Grater, who made nine game appearances and boasted a 0.41 GAA. Morawski saw her first action in a Terrapin uniform this season and made eight appearances, also starting in a game.

Grater, Morawski and Keeley all earned a spot on the academic squad for the second time in their careers. Rowe, Scholl and Dean were named to the Academic All-ACC team earlier this year.
