Baseball Drops Series Finale to No. 3 North Carolina

March 23, 2008

Box Score

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - For the second straight game, the University of Maryland baseball team had trouble with the North Carolina bats as the visiting Tar Heels took the rubber game of the three-game series, 19-1, Sunday afternoon at Shipley Field.

The Tar Heels (18-4, 7-2 ACC) had three innings of five runs or more, including a five-run fourth to go up 7-0 and oust Maryland starter Jensen Pupa (Germantown, Md./Northwest). The Heels added seven in the sixth, four coming on a grand slam by right fielder Tim Fedroff. Third baseman Chad Flack also hit a grand slam in the eighth.

Maryland (11-11, 2-7 ACC) scored its run on a Chad Durakis (Cockeysville, Md./St. Pauls) sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Pupa allowed seven runs, all earned, in 3 2/3 innings pitched. North Carolina starter Matt Harvey allowed one run in six innings, striking out four batters.

Every North Carolina starter had at least one hit and all but one scored.

The Terps are at George Mason Tuesday and play host to UMBC Wednesday.
